Tune Class - Intro to Old-Time Fiddling w/ Rinn Netherton

$85.00
sold out

We’ve redesigned our Tune Classes to better meet the needs of folks who wish to build up their repertoire and confidence in an instructional setting. Tune Classes are offered in a series of three sessions that occur once per week with the same instructor.

This November, join Rinn Netherton for our first Tune Class Series. Rinn will teach a simple melody along with techniques such as Nashville shuffle, rhythmic fillers and double stops to give your fiddlin’ that old-time feel.

This Tune Class Series is best suited for beginning to intermediate players with at least 2 years experience on their instrument (you should be able to play a fiddle tune all the way through at a normal tempo).

Listen to the tune a few times to help you prepare for class here. Bring your instrument and - if it helps you learn - a recording device (cellphone) or a notebook and pencil.

Dates: November 3rd, 10th, and 17th

Time: 3:00 - 4:00 pm

Location: St. Louis String Collective; 3532a Greenwood Blvd

Registration closes Monday October 28th

We will be filming each class and the videos will be made available to participants at the end of the session.

Rinn Netherton is a folk, old-time, swing, and jazz multi-instrumentalist active in the St. Louis area. They found their musical beginning on violin at age 11 playing in local old-time jam sessions in St. Louis, and over time developed a powerful, energetic fiddle style with which they won first place at the prestigious Old Time Fiddle Championship at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas in 2016. Their music can be heard in listening rooms, dance halls, festival and concert stages, and restaurants, and they are an active member of swing trio the Triplets of Grubville, swing quartet the Hot Club of St. Louis, multi-genre duo Cambia, old-time quartet The Short List, contra dance band duo Roger Wilco, folk quartet Run Down Boots and The New Soles, and various other projects. In addition to their musical endeavors, they spend their 9-5 each work week as an analyst.
